Mirror Polishing prevents Mud (Drilling fluid) from sticking to the cutters, which allows the bit to move with less resistance when operating. The purposes of Mud includes acting as the primary defense for pressure control of a well, carrying out drill cuttings out of the hole and keeping the drill bit cool. However, in reality, Mud can stick to the cutters when drilling, preventing the bit from achieving a greater ROP, rate of penetration. Not only does this increase rig time, it also amplifies the operation costs and reduces the life of PDC cutters.
